Pilot PB Training in Six Local Authorities in Eastern and Southern Africa

Following the completion of the UN-Habitat Training Companion on PB in Africa, MDP-ESA will implement a Pilot PB training Course in six local authorities in Eastern and Southern Africa namely; Ruwa, Zimbabwe; Dondo Mozambique; Kabwe, Zambia; Thika, Kenya; Nansana, Uganda; and Dodoma Tanzania. The piloting will last for three days in each of the six local authorities but will be spread from 2 May – 7 June 2007.

The training is aimed at helping the participating local authorities and other stakeholders to prepare for, design, initiate and manage a participatory budgeting process, by training key actors who initiate and trigger participatory budgeting processes. At the same time the pilot training will provide an opportunity for local government officials and non-state actors to review and critique the usefulness of the draft Training Companion.

Regional Workshop on Participatory Budgeting in Africa

The Regional seminar on Participatory Budgeting is scheduled to take place in August 2007. The seminar aims to bring together state of the art knowledge and experiences in P.B, and help key institutional practitioners to share experiences. The seminar will be designed as a process of learning, with systematic follow up, rather than a one-off event.

ALGAF VII Session IV on Participatory Governance for Poverty Reduction.

The fourth Session of ALGAF VII on Participatory Governance for Poverty reduction: Opportunities and Constraints will be held on the 4th of May 2007. Seven countries will participate in this event through videoconference. These are: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The presenter is from Rwanda.
