Participatory Budgeting Training
The link between effective public service delivery, poverty reduction and citizen participation in development is now being recognized by many leading development practitioners after observing some success in such countries like Brazil, India and South Africa after their pioneering efforts in civic engagement in the implementation of their pro-poor policies. In these countries, the direct involvement of civil society in budget formulation and analysis; expenditure monitoring and tracking, participatory performance monitoring as well as monitoring of public service delivery have resulted in, among other things, greater responsiveness and accountability of governments to their citizens' demands, better local service delivery, further enhancement of the decentralization process and a significant reduction in corruption as well as an increase in transparency and access to information.
